Chronic cough with normal Chest X ray- Any cough lasting for more than eight weeks is classified as chronic cough. Any patient who presents with complaint of cough, chest X Ray is one of the most common investigation obtained. If some abnormalities is found in chest X Ray, patient is investigated on line of suspected etiology. However many patient would have chronic cough but their chest X Ray are essentially normal. Management of cough in these patients, at time is difficult. Most common cause of chronic cough with normal chest X Ray is following 1- Bronchial Asthma 2- GERD 3- Upper airway cough syndrome 4- drug induced cough A detailed history coupled with clinical examination and spirometry would provide diagnosis is most patients.
