What are the symptoms and signs of Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) - OSA is common disorder characterized by snoring and disturbed breathing while sleep, which associated with significant cardiovascular consequences if left untreated. Common symptoms of OSA are excessive daytime sleepiness, nonrestorative sleep, frequent awakening during sleep, morning headaches, dry mouth in the morning hour upon awakening, nocturia (frequent visit to washroom for passing urine), cognitive impairment (poor intellectual performances and personality change). While sleeping these patients may have loud habitual snoring, choking and gasping during sleep, breathing pause for few seconds, restlessness in the bed. If any of these symptoms are present, one should get evaluated for sleep disorder breathing and avoid the potential harmful consequences of obstructive sleep apnea.
